Let's imagine a situation: someone finds your program — it doesn't matter how, but they become a user — and they notice that there are several mistakes in translation, or that it is incomplete or missing altogether. They go to the project page, create a task like "Problem with translation" and asks how they can help. What kind of answer do they get? "Edit it, make a commit, create a fork, open a pull request." What is a commit? Or a pull request? What does it have to do with dishes?! A potential translator is lost.
Translators can be both advanced users and beginners, and it is very important to create conditions to make it as easy as possible for them to contribute to your project's translations, because translators are an important part of any team. For this purpose, there is such a thing as a translation management system. I recommend using Weblate because it is popular among libre software and is libre software itself. Also, this system uses gettext, a translation library that supports plural rules for different languages (different languages have different rules!). It is also important to add comments to strings to prevent incorrect translations due to lack of context.
